Mandatory deductible (eigen risico)
The amount you pay yourself each calendar year for care covered by basic insurance before your insurer starts paying.
The mandatory deductible applies to everyone aged 18 or over and is set by the government each year. You only pay it when you use care from basic insurance that counts towards it, such as hospital care or medicines. Some care is exempt, for example visits to your GP (huisarts), district nursing (wijkverpleging), midwifery and maternity care. Care covered by supplementary insurance does not count. If you are insured for only part of the year, the deductible is pro rata.
