Supplementary insurance (aanvullende verzekering)

Optional extra insurance for care that basic insurance does not cover, or covers only partly.

Supplementary insurance covers things like physiotherapy, glasses and contact lenses, alternative care or care abroad. Each insurer decides what it covers and what it costs, and the premium may depend on your age. Insurers are not obliged to accept you: they may ask health questions, apply an age limit or refuse you. Often you can only take out supplementary insurance if you also have basic insurance with the same insurer. The deductible does not apply to care covered by supplementary insurance.

In Dutch: Aanvullende verzekering
